904L Super Austenitic Stainless Steel

904L (N08904, 14539) super austenitic stainless steel contains 14.0-18.0% chromium, 24.0-26.0% nickel, and 4.5% molybdenum. 904L super austenitic stainless steel is a low carbon high nickel and molybdenum austenitic stainless acid-resistant steel. Has good activation-passivation transformation ability, excellent corrosion resistance, good corrosion resistance in non-oxidizing acids such as sulfuric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, and phosphoric acid, and good in neutral chloride-containing media Resistance to pitting corrosion, and has good resistance to crevice corrosion and stress corrosion. It is suitable for sulfuric acid of various concentrations below 70°C. It also has good corrosion resistance in acetic acid at any concentration and temperature under normal pressure, and mixed acids of formic acid and acetic acid.

904L Stainless Steel Processing Performance

1. 904L Stainless Steel Welding
Like ordinary stainless steel, 904L can be welded by various welding methods. The most commonly used welding methods are manual arc welding or inert gas shielded welding. The electrode or wire metal is based on the composition of the base metal and has a higher purity. The content of molybdenum is higher than the base metal. Pre-heating is generally not required before welding, but in cold outdoor operations, in order to avoid condensation of water vapor, joint parts or adjacent areas can be uniformly heated. Note that the local temperature should not exceed 100°C, otherwise it will cause carbon accumulation and cause intergranular corrosion. Welding should use small linear energy, continuous and fast welding rate. Generally, no heat treatment is required after welding. If heat treatment is required, it must be heated to 110 ~ 1150℃ and then quickly cooled.
2. 904L Stainless Steel Processing
904L's machining characteristics are similar to other austenitic stainless steels, and there is a tendency of sticking knife and work hardening during processing. It is necessary to use a positive horn carbide tool and sulfide and chlorinated oil as the cutting coolant. The equipment and technology should be based on the premise of reducing work hardening. Avoid slow cutting speed and feed during cutting.

1.4307 Stainless Steel Plates and Sheets

Quality 1.4307 (also called ASTM 304/ 304L–SS2333) is a general purpose stainless steel with good corrosion resistant, impact strength and formability. 304L grade is a version of 304 quality stainless steel with a carbon content of less than 0.03%. Quality stainless steel 1.4307 is a stainless steel which usually is more difficult to machine than ordinary carbon steels. Quality1.4307 stainless steel plates and sheets can be readily welded by a full range of conventional welding methods. 1.4307 cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but it can be hardened by cold working. It is available in plates, sheets, strips and pipes.

Quality 1.4307 Corrosion Resistance

This quality, which is quite sufficient for daily use and standard production, is very similar to 304 quality in terms of its basic features. In the welded areas, the corrosion resistance of the welded parts is higher than that of 304 quality, since less quality of 304L ( 1.4307) quality is observed. 304L ( 1.4307) grade stainless steel is recommended especially for welded areas and is not preferred in more corrosive environments. Instead of 304L ( 1.4307) quality stainless steel in more demanding conditions, 316L, 316Ti or duplex (1.4462) grade stainless steels can be preferred.
