How to Use SKD11 Mold Steel?

SKD11 Mold Steel is characterized by good toughness and high temperature fatigue resistance can withstand temperature fusion, suitable for long-term work at high temperatures with good cutting performance and polishing performance.  If you want to purchase SKD11 plates from China supplier, pls send RFQ to klsteelamber@outlook.com.

How to Use SKD11 Mold Steel ?(for reference only)

1. Use in the state of "quenching + tempering"
2. Use in "quenching + cold treatment + tempering" state (suitable for high precision and dimensional stability requirements)
3. Use in the state of “quenching + tempering + nitriding treatment” (suitable for high hardness requirements)
4. Cryogenic treatment For maximum hardness and dimensional stability, the mold is deep-cooled immediately after quenching -70 to -80 ° C for 3-4 hours, then tempered, and the cryogenically treated tool or mold is harder than conventional heat treatment. High hardness 1-3HRC. Parts with complex shapes and large dimensional changes have the risk of cracking during cryogenic treatment.
5. Nitriding treatment After nitriding the mold or workpiece, the surface forms a hardened structure with high hardness and certain corrosion resistance.
6. At 525 °C, the surface hardness of the workpiece is about 1250 HV. The effect of nitriding time on the layer is shown in the following table. Nitriding time (hours) 20 30 60 Nitrided layer depth mm 0.25 0.30 0.35
7. At 570 ° C soft nitriding treatment, the surface hardness of the workpiece is about 950 HV. Usually soft nitriding treatment for 2 hours, the depth of the hardened layer can reach 10-20um. Grinding the mold blank or working in low temperature tempering state, grinding is prone to grinding cracking. In order to prevent the occurrence of cracks, a small grinding feed rate should be used for multiple grinding, with good water cooling conditions.
Wire-cutting A mold with a complicated shape or a large size is often subjected to cracking when it is finally subjected to wire-cutting.
In order to prevent cracking, it is recommended to use gas quenching and high temperature tempering to reduce the heat treatment stress or pre-process the cavity.
